My Story - Egbers family

April 2011

Franklin Silver Lining Trust has again given a Franklin family a special break to cope with adversity in their lives.

Six months ago, Pukekohe's Egbers family lost a husband and father, Mark, in a motorbike accident.

Terril Marais nominated Sue and her two children, Matthew and Michaela, to receive a special treat. In her nomination she described Sue as a person who always gave her time and made the effort to help others when they were in need.

"They are still struggling to get their lives back on track. As with most people who lose a loved one so dramatically and unexpectedly, it is still hard to accept that Mark will not walk through the door.

"Sue has always been one to give her time and effort to help others and was a huge support for me when I had my own personal issues."

Matthew and Michaela Egbers received the thrill of hot laps with Greg Murphy around Hampton Downs and Terril said, "it took about a month to wipe the grins off their faces". And the significance of the racetrack was not lost on the Egbers family as the children's father used to attend training days there on his motorbike.

Described as a "closet petrol head", Sue Egbers is looking forward to a night away in Rotorua at Wylie Court Motel with dinner at Campbells Rest thanks to the Franklin Silver Lining Trust.

"To have had this special break gifted to us is wonderful. Just knowing that others care about what you have gone through. It is one way of showing it and we do appreciate it, " she said.
